26 Oct 2009: Filming at Bedwellty Pits, for Doctor Who Series 5

Rob M. Clarke: Got to the trackbase following all the usual florescent signs and spoke to a really friendly local and his (not so friendly dog) who were chatting to the security guard on site. He told me that filming was further up the valley and they would be away from the site tonight. Back in the car and further up the valley was indeed where today's unit was, signed as "Track Location" today with more florescent signs. Spoke to the one of the locals who said they'd been there since about 9am and she thought they would be leaving around 8.30 tonight. Also told me that they had to turn off the street lights so it wouldn't interfere with filming. As this is a very small place with small houses and its half term, you can imagine that there are a number of kids around who want to play out in the street (like they would normally do). Unfortunately this noise has been a problem for the film crew and were no longer letting people get too close to the "action". Quite understandable really, they have a job to do after all. The locals didn't seem fussed. I showed one woman how to zoom into a photo she'd already taken on camera and she did a mini-squee.

They shot another scene with Doc11 running along the side of the river with a couple of extras and a wheelbarrow. Lines heard were: doc11:"Don't worry"; female-pushing-wheebarrow: "Who are you?". It looks like it could be somewhere near the start of the episode. Amy was reportedly on set too but I didn't see her.
