Filming outside the New Theatre for Sarah Jane Adventures, 12th May 2008
Scott Frankton: They were filming outside the New Theatre on Greyfriars Road. Posters on the outside, with Russ Abbot giving a performance of "secrets of the stars". Obviously he is some sort of Derren Brown type figure. The scene I saw being filmed involved a group of people holding hands all looking up to the sky. At a spaceship perhaps? Filming continued until 6pm.
Brigade Leader: Just back from the filming (the first DW-related filming I've ever properly seen ! Hurrah!). Stayed for maybe 40 minutes, and it was essentially just retakes of the same scene, with that line of spaced-out joined-hand people blocking Sarah Jane, Luke, Clyde and Rani's way into the Theatre (which I notice has been named 'East Acton New Theatre', presumably so they can do long shots of it without having to cover the big sign). A blonde-haired women speaks kind of sternly and impassively with them, and raises her hand, David Blaine-style (but without an eye on it, unless that'll be added on later, a CGEye, if you will. Although you shouldn't.). The woman and a tall dark-haired man parted hands and stepped aside to let the awesome foursome go inside. Rani turned round as they walked in, looking mistrustingly at the woman. The scene was taken from a few different angles, so sometimes there was a massive chain of people along two sides of the Theatre, sometimes there were about five or six (including a little boy and a guy with funky dreads), and for a while just the central man and woman.
