Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace Way, Wood Green, London, N22 7AY

The original palace, built 1873 as an environment and recreation centre, burnt down sixteen later! It was rebuilt within two years, and in 1900 an Act of Parliament created the Alexandra Palace and Park Trust to maintain the area and make it "available for the free use and recreation of the public forever." Another fire in 1980 again raged through the building, and it eventually reopened in 1988. It is now seen one of London's premier venues.

The first broadcasts by the BBC were made from the eastern wing of the Palace, and remained the corporation's main transmitting station until 1956.
