Alland Grange
Manston, Kent

Alland Grange is a small road that leads off the main road running alongside Kent International Airport (formerly RAF Manston). During 1944 a large hangar was built across from the road and formed part of "The Loop", an area used for aircraft repair. After the war it was used by US Airforce, then Invicta Airways in the 1970s, before the land was sold to Jade's Farm. During the 1980s the Kent International Business Park was built and the hangar became part of that, and is currently used by a helicopter training and charter firm.

How to get here:

»

Road: A28 - Follow the A28 towards Margate, and then turn off towards Ramsgate on the A253. As you reach the junction with the B2048 (Minster), turn left on that roundabout and then turn right and right again on the next two roundabouts to run alongside Kent International Airport (signposted). Alland Grange Lane is the next main turning on the left, and the houses a little further down the lane. Parking: roadside. +

Additional Notes:

»

Jade's Farm turned the area in front of the houses into a field back in the 1980s, so the road leading to the hangar itself has long since gone.

Other nearby locations:

»

Botany Bay (Fury from the Deep). Road (7.3 miles, 20m) : Head south from the house back to Kent Internation Airport, then turn left. This becomes the B2050 which then leads into Manston. Turn left at the A256 heading towards Margate/Broadstairs. Keep following this until you reach the roundabout with the A255, then go straight across into Vicarage Street, which becomes Church Street. Turn left into Northdown Road and then this joins the B2053 (left again). This leads up to another junction, with the B2052 towards Broadstairs; follow this a little way along until Botany Road, which is signposted Botany Bay, and then follow this to the end! Parking: car park.

»

Red Sands Sea Fort (Fury from the Deep). Road (14.7 miles, 28m) : Head along Alland Grange back to Kent International Airport, and then turn right. When you reach the B0248 at the end of the airport (past two roundabouts), head west along the A253 until it reaches the A299.
