Athelhampton House

Athelhampton House is a private estate formed towards the end of the 15th Century, taking in some 160 acres of deer park in the surrounding grounds. The house and gardens are open to the public on most weekdays in the summer and on Sundays out of season. Admission price (as of 2006) is £8.00 (£5.00 after 2:30pm).

Road: A35 - Exit the A35 at the junction between it, the A354 and B3142 (Puddletown), and go south into the town following The Moor. When you reach the High Street, turn left and follow that until it becomes Athelhampton Road. Then follow this until you reach the House on the left. Parking: visitors. +

Walk to the east of the entrance gate in the car park.
River Cottage

Walk west through the car park, past the restaurant/admissions centre to the river; the cottage can be seen on the other side.
Athelhampton House (Entrance Garden)

Enter the admissions centre, and the Entrance Garden is the first area in the grounds you enter.
Athelhampton House (Great Court)

Enter the admissions centre, and then continue straight across the Entrance Garden path, past the gates and through a gap in the hedge.
Athelhampton House (Corona)

Enter the admissions centre, then walk to the front of the house, then through the archway to the east.
Athelhampton House (Private Garden)

Enter the admissions centre, then walk to the front of the house, then through the archway to the east into the Corona, and then through the gate to the north. Note: the Private Garden is sometimes closed if the houseowners are in residence.
Athelhampton House (east gardens)

Enter the admissions centre, then walk to the front of the house, then through the archway to the east, passing through the Corona and Lion's Mouth into the east gardens.
Athelhampton House (North Drive)

Enter the admissions centre, then turn left and head past the arches to the gap between them and the house. Then join the driveway and follow it north around the house to the private car park.

Enter the admissions centre, then turn left and head past the arches to the gap between them and the house.

Warmwell Quarry (The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Survival). Road (7.1 miles, 23m) : Turn left out of the car park and head east along Athelhampton Road. This becomes Dorchester Road and eventually passes through Tolpuddle. Continue on to the B3390 (at the A35), and then turn right to follow this south. This eventually reaches Crossways, and then the quarry is just south of the village on the right-hand side. Parking: roadside.

Stanton Court (Ghostlight). Road (15.4 miles, 29m) : Turn right out of the car park and follow the Athelhampton Road to Puddletown; turn right into the Moor, and then join the A35 heading west to Dorchester. When you reach the A354, follow this south to Weymouth, then cross the river onto the A353 through the town. Greenhill is just after the church after the one-way system, and 11 Stanton Court is just past that junction. Parking: double-yellow lines.
