Bankside Jetty
London

The houses around Cardinal Cap Alley were built in the late 16th Century, with the alley possibly created as an access route to the Cardinal's Cap public house. However, the oldest existing building, Cardinal Wharf (number 49), dates from during the 18th Century.

There is a placard on the wall of one of the houses which commemorates St Christopher Wren staying there during the building of St. Paul's Cathedral; however it is known that this was a fake, but meant that the building survived being demolished like others on this side of the Thames!

How to get here:

»

Underground (District/Circle)/Rail: Blackfriars - Exit the station and walk along Queen Victoria Street until you reach the Millennium Bridge; cross over to the other side of the Thames, and Bankside is just to the right (east) of the Tate Modern. +

»

Bus: Southwark Bus Map - Bankside is just to the right of the Tate Modern. +
