Built between 1775 and 1783, Bedford Square is one of the best preserved areas of Georgian architecture in London, with many of the buildings being Grade I listed; it is named after the main landlords in the Bloomsbury area.

Number 41 was once home to the architect William Butterfield and the novelist Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins.

During the first half of 2006 the square was redeveloped, with the curved road around the square removed and made more pedestrian-friendly, the work undertaken to restore the original Georgian York stone paving line.

Underground (Central/Northern): Tottenham Court Road Station - Exit the station and head north up Tottenham Court Road until you reach Bedford Avenue on the right. Turn into it, and then second left onto Adeline Place - this leads into Bedford Square. +

Tottenham Court Road (The War Machines). From the southwest corner of Bedford Square, follow Adeline Place along to Great Russell Street, and then then turn right. This leads to Totthenham Court Road, and then turn left - the location is on the other side of the road a little further down.

Gresse Street (The War Machines). From the northwest corner of Bedford Square, follow Bayley Street to Tottenham Court Road. Cross over, turn left and then right into Stephen Street. This leads into Gresse Street, and the location is to the left.

Charlotte Place (The War Machines). From the northwest corner of Bedford Square, follow Bayley Street to Tottenham Court Road. Cross over, turn right and then left into Percy Street. This leads into Rathbone Street and bears right. Charlotte Place is where Rathbone Street bends right.
