Location Point

Buckland Sand and Silica Co Ltd
Reigate Road, Buckland, Surrey

Originally a family-run business, the quarry was acquired by Amalgamated Roadstone (ARC) in 1978 and subsequently by Hanson in 1990, who still continue to extract sand and silica for providing specialist glass sand to customers throughout the UK.

5 Dec 2009: The original quarry north of the A25 (used in The Seeds of Doom) is now disused, and has become a nature reserve, but not open to the public.

How to get here from Betchworth Quarry:

»

Road: Turn right out the The Coombe, heading south along Station Road and past the station itself. When you reach the roundabout, turn left and head along the A25 towards Reigate. The quarry entrance is on the right-hand side, opposite Lawrence Lane. +

Where to walk

There is a footpath that runs through a field alongside the northern ridge of the quarry.

This location is private and has no or limited access only. though the quarry is no longer in use and is now a nature reserve, it isn't open to the public; it is possible to see into the reserve from the field above (footpath), though the area is bounded by hedgerow and a great number of trees have grown up to block the view!
