Cambridge House and its estate was established in the 17th Century and was the second largest in Twickenham until the 19th Century, when the estate was finally broken up. A number of large houses were built, set in extensive grounds; then during the 1860s there was some rapid expansion of residential homes, forming the neighbourhood that still exists today and is protected by a conservation order.
