Sussex Police Training Centre (Crowborough)
Duddleswell, East Sussex

Formerly known as Crowborough Wireless Telegraph Station

The original transmitter was built on this site for the Political War Executive in the Second World War, and was partially used by the BBC from 1942 for it's European Service, and then hired by them after the war for the World Service. It was closed in 1992 and the site is now a training centre for Sussex Police.

17th Jan 2007: The site is earmarked to be closed as part of a cost-cutting exercise, reported by Hastings Today (see link below).

Road: A22 - onto the B2188. Head along the road through Duddleswell. The police training centre on the site will be on the right hand-side after continuing over a crossroads. Parking: unknown. +

Parking Details

There are a number of car parks off the road for the forest.

This location is private and has no or limited access only. The training station is private, and there is no access to see whether the buildings are still there; the antenna can easily be seen from the perimeter fences

Then turn left onto the A26 towards Crowborough and continue until just after Poundgate, and the training camp is on the left. Parking: unknown. Parking Unknown.

Withyham Cricket Club (Black Orchid). Road (5.8 miles, 11m) : Head north on B2026 towards Hartfield. When you reach the town, turn right onto the B2110 towards Withyham. Pass through the village, continuing until you reach the Dorset Arms pub - the entrance to Buckhurst Park and the cricket club is here. Parking: roads alongside Dorset Arms.

Harrison's Rocks (Castrovalva). Road (7.3 miles, 15m) : Head north on B2026 towards Hartfield, then turn right onto the B2188 towards Groombridge. When you reach the end of this road, turn right onto the B2110 into Groombridge itself, and then when you reach the mini-roundabout in the village, turn right into Station Road and then follow this over the railway bridge and then bear right in Eridge Road. Birchden Wood and the rocks are a couple of hundred yards on the right hand side. Parking: Birchden Wood car park (1.00). Parking Birchen Wood car park. Small fee applies
