Leeds Castle can be traced back to Norman Britain, and has over the course of its rich and varied life been home to several Queens of England. From 1278 it was part of the Queen's dower from when she became a widow, and then later was very popular with Henry VIII. It has since been a garrison, a prison, and a convalescent home, as well as a private home for the various families. It is now managed by the Leeds Castle Trust and open to visitors throughout the year.
