Oldbury Power Station
Oldbury Naite, Thornbury, Gloucestershire, BS35 1RQ

Oldbury was the first operating nuclear power station in the world, opening in 1967. In November 2011, Oldbury was among only 54 organisations to be awarded the British Safety Council's Sword of Honour.

Originally due to close in 2008, the site was finally decommissioned on 29th February 2012.

How to get here:

Road: M5 - Exit junction 14, heading west on the B4509 (signposted Berkeley), and then left. At the church, turn right and follow the road towards Rockhampton. Continue on to Newton, turn right through Lower Morton, then turn right towards Oldbury. Bear right towards Oldbury Naite and the power station is at the end of the road. (7 miles, 15m) +

Parking Details

Car Park (for visiting the nature trail)

This location is private and has no or limited access only. The power station is private, but you can walk around the outside on a nature trail that is open to the public. Please note the visitor centre has been closed since 2006 though signs are still up for it!

At the end turn right into Butt Lane, and then right onto the B4061 (Gloucester Road). When you reach the roundabout in the village, go straight across onto Castle Street, then turn left into Stokefield Close. Parking There are a lot of yellow lines around here! You could briefly park in the local government building!
