»

2 Jun 1976: The production team conducted a recce of the quarry. (src :On Location, p136)

»

15 Jun 1976: The detonation of the cliff face during episode one was an actual one conducted by the owners and filmed by the production team, with the camera locked off in a protective steel case. Visual Effects Designer Colin Mapson: The guys who blew up the rock face were fantastic, real experts. They told us within ten feet where the blast debris would reach, allowing us to set up the camera for a spectacular low shot. They were spot-on with their prediction and it looked wonderful.
