Great Queen Street was constructed during the 17th Century and was notable as being one of the first residential areas in this area at that time, which included figures such as parliamentary general Sir Thomas Fairfax and the dramatist Richard Brainsley Sheridan.

Underground (Central/Piccadilly): Holborn - Exit the station's main entrance, turning left; walk down to the traffic lights, just past the Shakespeare's Head pub, and then cross over Kingsway to the opposite side, which is Great Queen's Street. +

Bus: Holborn Bus Map - Stops P,N,M; head south on Kingsway until you reach Great Queen Street on the right-hand side. +

Where to walk to next?

Covent Garden Market (The War Machines, Invasion of the Dinosaurs). Head west along Great Queen Street and continue as it becomes Long Acre. When you reach Covent Garden station, turn left and head down into the market itself.

Royal Opera House (The War Machines). Head west along Great Queen Street and continue as it becomes Long Acre. When you reach Bow Street, turn left and head down until you reach the Opera House on the right.

Shelton Street (The Web of Fear). Head west along Great Queen Street and continue as it becomes Long Acre. As you reach Covent Garden station, turn right onto Neal Street, and Shelton Street is as you reach the end of this pedestrianised section.

Australia House (The Invasion). Head east along Great Queen Street and then turn right onto Kingsway. At the end turn left, walking along Aldwych to the St. Clement Danes church; Australia House is opposite the church.
