Hillier Road

Formerly known as Le Marchant Barracks

The Le Marchant Barracks are named after Sir John Gaspard Le Marchant, commander of the 99th Regiment of Foot, and were completed in 1878. These were the regimental headquarters through to 1959, then became a museum. The site is now a housing estate.

Road: M4 - Exit the M4 at junction 15 and head south on the A346, then turn right onto the B4005; alternatively exit at junction 16 and head east on the B4005. At Wroughton, turn south on the A4361 heading towards Avebury and Devizes. Cross the roundabout with the A4 at Beckhampton and follow the A361 on towards Devizes. As you reach Roundway, turn left onto Hambleton Avenue and then right into Hillier Road. (19.5 miles, 34m) +

Aldbourne (The Dæmons). Road (21 miles, 36m) : Turn out left out of Hillier Road into Hambleton Avenue, then right onto the A361. Turn right on the roundabout with the A4 at Beckenham. When you reach Marlborough, turn left onto the A346. Turn left for Ogbourne St. George and then follow the road through the village and under the A346. This passes through Woodsend and then arrives at Aldbourne. Parking There is free parking near to the village pond.
