Bembridge Harbour
Isle of Wight

There has been a harbour at the mouth of the River Yar since Roman times. The modern harbour, natural in appearance, was actually built towards the end of the 19th Century, claiming tidal mudflats for more firm land and a railway connecting the new harbour with the traditional commercial centre of Brading, further upstream. Since the closure of the railway in the 1970s, the harbour now forms a marina for yachts and other pleasure boats.

How to get here:

»

Road: From the Fishbourne ferry port, head along Fishbourne Lane and then turn left onto the A3054 towards Ryde. From there take the A3055 towards Brading. Turn left towards St Helens (B3330), and once there, turn right towards Bembridge on the B3395. The harbour can be reached from Embankment Road at the end of the marina. (10.3 miles, 32m) +

»

Road: From the East Cowes ferry port, head along the A3021 out of East Cowes. Follow the A3021 to Whippingham, then turn left onto the A3054 towards Wootton and continue on to Ryde.
