Dover Castle (Keep Yard)

The Keep Yard was the hub of castle life in medieval times, with tradesmen and merchants plying wares to the comings and goings of monarchs! The Inner Bailey walls were constructed to protect the Keep during the 1180s.

How to get here:

Walk: Admissions Centre - Follow the path to the west around the church, passing through Colton's Gateway and toward the keep. Follow the path up to the keep (Palace Gateway) and walk through to the end of the Keep Yard. through King's Gate. +

The roof of the Inner Bailey isn't open to the public, so the photo was taken from the top of the Keep.

The shot of the escaping convict on the steps is taken from the white rooftop seen in the photo, looking down to the archway. Not much of an escape route!
