Kew Bridge Steam Museum
Brentford, Middlesex, TW8 0EN

The Kew Bridge Pumping Station opened in 1838 and operated through to 1944 when it was finally closed by the Metropolitan Water Board. It became a museum in 1975. The musuem still retains the original steam-powered pumping engines, which includes the world's largest single-cylinder beam engine.

The museum is open to the general public, and is often free on the London Open House weekends.

Admission: In 2008: £5.00, £8.50 for the year

Rail: Kew Bridge - Turn right out of the station and onto Kew Bridge Road. Then turn right into Green Dragon Lane and the museum is on the left. +

The side road is on the west side of the museum, and leads to a gate onto Kew Bridge Road - this is just by the entrance into the Thames Water site.

The back yard can be seen from the hill behind the museum, which is publicly accessible (though can be overgrown!).

»

At the time of filming, the museum was in the process of being extended, and the red posts seen in the story are the foundation girders for the large white building you can now see on the site.
