Moorfields
Moorgate, London

The Moorfields were one of the last areas of open land in the City of London during the 18th Century. Much of the land was developed upon from 1777, and the present street parallel to Moorgate retains the name.

Much of the Moorgate side of the road was demolished and rebuilt into new offices and shops during the 1980s, including the alleyway leading to the jewelrers.

The Moorgate Buttery does still exist; when the block was redeveloped the buttery was re-established around the corner of Moorfields at its southern end!
