Parish Church
North Woodchester, Gloucestershire

The first mention of a parish priest in Woodchester is in 896, and is the earliest mention of such a role in England. The church was built over the site of a roman villa, and was Norman in design. However, during the late 19th Century it was demolished in favour of a new church, St. Mary's, nearer the centre of the village. The ruins are still on the site.

How to get here:

»

Road: M5 - Exit junction 13, and head east on the A419 towards Stroud. When you reach the roundabouts at Cainscross, turn right at the second roundabout onto Dudbridge Road, and then turn right onto the A46 towards Woodchester. When you reach the village, turn right onto Selsey Road, and then right into Church Lane. +
