Southall Gas Works
Southall, Middlesex
The gas works at Southall dominated the West London suburb for much of the 20th Century; the site included residences for workers and its own pub. The works wound down in the 1970s, and most of the site has now been demolished, with only a few gas cylinders remaining. A brownfield site for many years, the area is now ear-marked for redevelopment.
How to get here:
»
Rail: Turn right out of the station, and then cross over South Road. Turn left onto Beaconsfield Road and then left again onto The Crescent. This leads into the Straight - continue past the gates and along the road until you reach the end, past the gas cylinder. +
