Coed-y-Wallas is a valley in which the River Alun flows, parallel to a railway line north of Castle upon Alun. The river passes under a railway arch to the northern end of the valley (Pont-yr-Brown), and the road fords the river nearby - the steps across the river here are called the Stepsau Ddion.
