Aldbourne

Aldbourne is a large village situated at the junction of five valleys in Wiltshire. There has been a village here for many centuries, and during the 18th Century it was a major industrial centre for fustian weaving and bell-making. The Blue Boar pub was built in 1822.

It is now a quiet and well-kept village, having won awards for the Best-Kept village.

Road: M4 - Exit the M4 at junction 15, then head north on the A419 to the next roundabout. Take the B4192 towards Liddington and then this leads to Aldbourne. +

Walk up either parallel street to the Green, and Crooked Corner is to the northeast, just past the pub. Continue along past the church, and there is a trail on the left; this leads to the barrows after about a mile.

When you reach the village of Baydon, turn right onto Ermin Street which then becomes Baydon Road. When you reach a crossroads, turn right and follow the road under the M4, and the airfield is on the right.

Ramsbury Airfield (The Dæmons). Road: Head south out of the village on the B4192 towards Ramsbury. Pass through Preston and then turn right onto Crowood Lane, which leads through Ramsbury. This becomes Union Street, then at the end turn right then left and cross the river. Follow the road, which bears right then left; at the junction turn right heading towards Darrell's Farm. Pass through Whittonditch and then as the road bends left at Knighton, Oaken Coppice Lane is on the left. This leads to Oaken Coppice.
